Kronos and Karios are greek words both depicting a type of time. Kronos time is like clock and calender time. Our world runs on kronos time, this moment is followed by another moment. Since we use kronos time we are always focused on the future. "Oh I'm so stressed about this meeting at 5 oclock!" Sound familiar at all? When we do things like this we forget about the "now"! If a bus is running late we sit there on the bench stressed out instead of noticing the dog walking on the other side of the street or the old lady trying to cross the street. We don't take advantage of every moment we are granted. Its a sad thing.
This brings me to Kairos time. Kairos is a defining moment. Your time is marked by defining moments in your life. If you look back to two years ago do you say "Oh man 5:00pm on sunday october 2nd was amazing!". NO! You look back on things like spending time with your friends or family. Or the long walk you took and noticed how pretty all the leaves changing were.
Now in our world, our society, its impossible to be a successful human and not use kronos time. I know this. But it's pretty much impossible to live a happy meaningful life without trying to focus on the kairos moments in your life. The defining moments. "How can I make today awesome!" "What can I do for someone else?" So I challenge you as well as myself, to take the time to notice the small things in life. Life is full of much more beauty than we give it credit for. God did not make an ugly world, man did, but if you look closely you can still see Gods beautiful creation anywhere. If I can find it in the slums in Atlanta I know its possible. Don't ever get to busy to (I know this sounds cliche) stop and smell the roses, or just sit and listen to a song, or watch a bird fly, or stare at the clouds. This life is a vapor.
